Working Out
My husband, Greg, and I are avid distance runners. We were supposed to run the Minneapolis Marathon on Sunday, 6/1, which would have been our 14th marathon overall, and our 6th time running this particular race. Because of some persistent and nasty thunderstorms early Sunday morning, though, the marathon was cancelled — but no problem for us! As soon as we were reasonably sure the weather was a little calmer, we decided this was the day we would challenge ourselves to run our very first ultramarathon, on our own route. We ran most of the marathon route and blended it with one of our favorite training routes…for a grand total of 29.6 miles in just about 6 hours! Might have been a little faster if it had been cooler and less humid, and if Greg wasn’t just over a nasty spring cold. But all the same, we had enough energy to enjoy the whole run (thanks to the right snacks and plenty of water), were no more sore and tired than after a typical long run…and had almost NO leftover soreness yesterday! We still feel great about doing this!
