The team at Title Nine has many players — and many coaches. Our own athletic and personal lives have been shaped and influenced by coaches we’ve had, making the decision to embark on the same path an important one. We look up to those who lead the way for us: it’s time for us to lead the way for the next generation.
Do YOU coach? Tell us why below.
I coach because no kid should be told he or she is not good enough…not in youth sports. I coach because I had the good fortune to have coaches who always encouraged me to try hard, to work hard, to be successful. I coach because I want kids who play for me to have FUN…to realize there can and should be joy and pleasure derived from sport…whether you are the best player or the least player. I coach because I love telling the parents of the children I coach that one and all get equal playing time and each kid is a valued member of my team! I coach because I care about kids and I want them to have fun and along the way, I want them to learn to believe in themselves. They can rise to meet the challenges that surely await them…so why not start figuring it out through sport! I coach to try to make a positive difference!
I coach cross country and distance running with a youth club. It is the most fulfilling thing I do outside of parenting. It is fun, energizing, frustrating, satisfying, and the core of a wonderful community of families. My husband helps out and my kids run on the team. All the kids thrive, the parents run with them, and we support each other. My role is really a small part of keeping a bunch of people connected and healthy.
I coach because it is an extension of my passion for teaching, and it gives me an opportunity to help empower young people, especially young women! I love helping them to love the game, to enjoy being active, and to feel as if they are part of something bigger than themselves!
I have coached both girls and boys high school soccer for 20 years. I wanted to coach because I wanted to pass along the great lessons and experiences I had as a player in high school and college. The relationships I get you build with these young men and women are what I cherish most. I love coaching.
I love the game of field hockey. I have been around or involved in the game since I was 3 years old (my mom officiated and would take me to her games). When I played in high school and college, I fully realized the importance of my team. Not just for the sport, but for the life lessons, the “family”, the support, and the fun. I want to pass the love of the game onto the future generation! I also want them to know they can rely on their teammates for help, support, guidance and friendship. As a coach, I want to help them to learn to trust in their teammates, believe in themselves, develop discipline and become the best athlete, leader and young woman they can!
I coach Girls on the Run because I want to support girls in reaching their goals. I want to encourage girls to support each other. We are all in this together!
I coach because there is no better way to teach kids about commitment, teamwork, dedication and hardwork. When kids come back to me years later and thank me for those lessons there is no greater joy.
I really wanted my young girl to have a positive learning experience. It was new for her to have her Mom being everyone’s coach vs. just being her Mom. This was such a positive experience (2-3rd grade girls basketball) that I definitely will coach again next year.
I am an Assistant Coach for Junior High and High School Boys and Girls Track and Field in a tiny school in Montana. I love coaching because every day I am inspired by my athletes’ fervor for competition and willingness to work hard on and off the track. Most of all, I am continually impressed by my athletes’ attitudes towards each other. This is a group of kids who are extremely comfortable with each other, who are always complimenting each other and building each other up, practicing good sportsmanship to all they meet. I believe that above all, sports teach us how to be good human beings to one another, and this team, in all its unity, is the embodiment of that spirit.
I coach to watch the transformation of 5 & 6 year girls into softball players. They learn they can set goals and achieve them. It is an amazing experience.
