The team at Title Nine has many players — and many coaches. Our own athletic and personal lives have been shaped and influenced by coaches we’ve had, making the decision to embark on the same path an important one. We look up to those who lead the way for us: it’s time for us to lead the way for the next generation.
Do YOU coach? Tell us why below.
I coach U13 Girls Lacrosse to show the girls there is more than one way to win. Giving your best effort, supporting teammates, and respecting your opponents never show up on a score board but show you are a winner in the game of life.
I coached Special Olympics Swimming for many years. My co coach and I took the highest swimmers whom are mostly seen in all the Special Olympics events, to the the Lowest functioning athlete who might have been unable to walk, talk, or swim. Everybody got a chance to swim in these Olympics.
We put on inner tubes , any flotation devices we had….to see their faces and excitement at the end of the coaching session to the end of the BiG Event, made everybody jump for joy, because of how proud these Athletes felt!!
This was true courage through determination, fun and excitement.
The best part……everybody wins!!
I’m a running coach for women who used to run, or decide that they want to enjoy running. We’re not about speed, but rather working together to reach a goal. I’ve found that running together is a fabulous way to connect with other women while being physically active outside. My initial goal was to encourage women to become more active and fit, and that’s expanded to also empower women to set and reach goals in other areas of their lives.
I coach middle and high school girls distance running in track and field. I coach because the girls inspire me with their guts! These beautiful and strong young women are willing to be completely vulnerable in front of their peers and parents during track meets. They set goals for themselves and work to achieve them. They learn to overcome their own fear and anxiety about a race or a jump by simply doing it. I love to see their improvement throughout the season – mentally and physically. Their sense of invincibility is contagious.
Beyonce says it best: Who runs the world? GIRLS!
I teach rock climbing, both indoor and outdoors. I really enjoy taking people outside to climb on real rock and introduce them to the sport I love.
I coach high school girls badminton. It is such a quick sport and a team where a wide variety of kids can be a part. It is a ton of fun.
I am the assistant coach for my 9 year old daughters softball team. I grew up playing softball and it taught me so many things. Having to work with a team starting at such a young age established the foundation for working in the future with others in all facets. Not only is the exercise good for the body but sports tend to bring out the good in our minds as well. I also love to see the looks on the girls faces when they make a good play, especially when they have been trying so hard and putting so much effort into learning. Encouragement at this age is so very important and I strive to be a positive role model not only for my daughters but for other girls as well. I am a 50/50 partner in a Women Owned Business and love to see not only youth girls but women in generally succeed and thrive.
Why do I coach? The thrill of being a winner in every sporting event – and our athletes are ALL winners! I help coach a Special Olympics swim team with athletes from 11 to 55 years old with a broad range of disabilities. Some are new to swimming and are learning about the sensation of floating and letting go of walls or steps. Others have competed in international Special Olympics games and are seasoned veterans that hit the pool every week with great strokes and goals for improving.
At every practice and meet we see thrilling accomplishments. Last week, one athlete jumped into the water from the side of the pool and used a ladder to climb out (instead of walking down and up steps that aren’t available at all meets). At a recent meet, I watched an athlete swap medals with another team mate because that athlete didn’t have any gold medals – and he didn’t have any bronze. It’s not always about winning. It IS about doing your best and being part of a team. It brings joy and meaning to me efforts as a coach.
I coach Girls on Track a running program for middle school girls.
This is a great way for these girls to work together as well as make personal goals to strive for. It is so important for middle school girls to think about and make healthy choices, I am thrilled to be a part of this!
I coach high school cross country. I love working with the girls on my team…teaching them that hard work, dedication, discipline, and perseverance are not only great qualities in a runner, but as a person as well. I try to lead by example and hope to inspire them to be the best version of themselves they can be.
