The team at Title Nine has many players — and many coaches. Our own athletic and personal lives have been shaped and influenced by coaches we’ve had, making the decision to embark on the same path an important one. We look up to those who lead the way for us: it’s time for us to lead the way for the next generation.
Do YOU coach? Tell us why below.
Right now I have 4-6 girls in the locker room being absolutely silly. After a hard workout! One of the many reasons I coach!
I coach female downhill mountain bikers. I coach because I want to give back to the bike community. Especially to the women because women are often not treated as equals in this sport due to it being a male dominated sport. I love coaching and seeing people progress in giving them the confidence they need to push forward and challenge themselves. It’s a very fulfilling duty.
I am only 20 years old and just recently, I was hired as a paid coach/instructor for Pink Gloves Boxing at Montana State University. It gives me the opportunity and pleasure to work with women of all ages at all different walks of life, encouraging and leading them in pursuing fitness as a lifestyle and not as a chore. It’s an awesome privilege to teach them how to throw punches and “reveal the champion from within” under the context of overall fitness through the PGB program.
I’m an assistant coach for Rockford Wildcats which is a youth XC running group affiliated with Rockford Road Runners. I love running with kids who wouldn’t otherwise be able to run on their own. It is very satisfying to see children’s self-confidence increase because they are improving in an activity that used to be difficult for them? I love promoting the sport of running because it can be a life long activity for these kids.
Like Betty Sigler, I am not a coach and nor have I ever coached but I can tell u that I do “coach” my fellow Zumba girls in class. In fact, from young to old, we all coach each other while dancing and shaking and working out all at once rocking to the great music that is played in each one hour class. For 10 weekends every 3 months we go to body blast where we cheer each other on while working out – almost like a boot camp type of workout. A great time is always had by all!
I am a Personal Trainer and Breast. Cancer Specialist (as well as a breast cancer survivor). I coach women who are going through radiation, chemo, mastectomy or lumpectomy to give them their life back. I work on getting range of motion back into
our muscles that have been violated by surgery to start with, then we work on a goal
that shows this insidious disease that we will not be beaten! We train for marathons, triathlons or just actions of daily living that have been impeded. I volunteer my services and the Club I work at allows the women to come for free, it is a pay it forward and I love the opportunity to serve.
I fell in love with women’s lacrosse in High School. Our school was fortunate enough to have on staff, one of the members of the US Women’s World Cup team; she was our coach. I learned so much and came so far with the sport. I dabbled in it a bit in college (club lacrosse, even serving as the coach for a year!) and played a bit post-college for fun.
When I moved to NJ with my husband, and was starting our family, I heard of a local youth lacrosse league that was being started. I contacted them, and became the girls’ 7th/8th grade coach, as well as the Girls’ VP of the club, even though I did not have a daughter playing (only sons, and they were babies while I was coaching). It was such a rewarding experience to teach the next generation this super-fun sport; one that is growing in such leaps and bounds across the country today. I will always love that time and what I was able to accomplish.
I am the assistant coach of a masters swimming team. We have swimmers ranging in ages from 18-80 from all walks of life, skill levels and abilities. It is really neat to have past Olympians and brand new swimmers just starting out in the same pool at the same time. I coach to help people stay happy and healthy. Swim for life!
Until receiving your request for coaching testimonials, I wasn’t thinking of myself as a coach. I am a member/paddler on an all-female breast cancer survivor dragon boat team. We are all”in the same boat”, literally and figuratively. Because we are all mature women with busy lives on land, we need to to get warmed up and stretched before we get on the water. As an experienced yoga student, and a certified practitioner of Active Isolated Stretching, I became the assistant coach for warm-up and cool-down to help my teammates avoid injury and post-exercise soreness. Many of them had no clue as to what worked to prepare for our sport, and it is so great to be able to share what I have learned will make all of us more fit and safe.
Coaching is a great way to empower girls. You can get them out of their comfort zone , teach them to use failure as a learning tool and watch them succeed. It’s also a cool way to make your living while playing! Sports is a way of teaching life lessons, working for something bigger than yourself and having fun!
