I grew up in an area that is renown for it’s amazing surf, but it wasn’t until recently that I decided to give it a try. Surfing has always intimidated me, but I am learning to conquer my fears while at the same time learning a lot about myself.
Learning to surf is a truly humbling exercise. It takes courage and patience, to fail over and over again, to pick yourself up from each failure and go on. That being said, I have been using borrowed boards from some of my surf sisters but would be so thankful to have my own at a time when buying a new board is not an option for me.
I’m a 28-year old girl from America’s Hometown. I have never ridden a horse, been camping, or skied. (Can we say, sheltered??) While all of this is not conducive to surfing, the fact that I have a beautiful daughter who will not be the confined girl I was, is. I will do everything in my power to ensure her life is full of adventure, purpose, meaning, memories. This will not be done for me, vicariously; rather, it will be done in tandem, creating a bond and a childhood that I hope she can pass on to her daughter.
My 40th birthday hit me HARD and I just felt OLD! After little while of moping, I snapped out of it and decided I am as old as I feel. In actuality I feel pretty young!
I’ve always wanted to surf, but figured it was not likely to happen since I was raised in Upper Michigan. Now in Wisconsin, one of my coworkers loves to surf Lake Michigan. I am ENVIOUS! Would love to show up at Root Beer Point or Sheboygan with my new surfboard and have him teach me to surf the Third Coast!
Please PICK ME!
This is probably going to sound a little wishy-washy. I have always wanted to learn how to surf. I always felt like I had decent balance and I love the ocean…surfing is the perfect fit. Lately, my life’s balance hasn’t felt quite right. I have my kids, husband and work, that all need my attention. I feel like I’m doing a terrible job keeping everything on an even keel. Maybe if I had this surfboard, I would (even if only symbolically at first) be inspired to hang in there and keep my balance. Thanks, for listening…Michelle
Growing up in Poland during communism I haven’t exactly had a chance to surf, or even knew what surfing was. A lot of really wonderful things happened to me since then. I now live in Mississippi, after living in Louisiana, Michigan, and Oregon. I have an enchanted life, amazing family, and believe that anything is possible. However, I STILL have never surfed. Bring it on!!! After I’m done, I’ll hang the board on the wall to remind me to keep trying the NEW – always.

I am a stay at home Mom in Key West Florida, I have 3 kids 3 and under, the youngest being 7 weeks old! When I get some time in the evenings once my husband comes home, I have to reconnect with myself. I kayak, swim, take the flats skiff for a spin, run; anything to align myself with nature and clear my mind. I love the water it is where I feel most at home. With this beautiful surfboard I would explore the flats, estuaries, mangrove isalnds and canals of the beautiful Florida Keys standing a top with a paddle. It would be a fun way to exercise while recharging the side of me that craves the water. I have seen others doing this sport and would love to have the ability to try and enjoy the adventure.
Surfing has become a passion and love of mine. It is a sport that my husband and I are able to participate in together. Surfing gives me a sense of freedom and thrill all at the same time. Even if the surf session is not the greatest, I leave feeling thankful for me time out enjoying nature. Sunday surf session has become church for us on Sundays. I love the work out I get from paddling and the excitement I get when I am catching waves. My husband broke my board so I am in need of one now.
While I don’t deserve the surfboard, my two beautiful daughters do. My girls were both adopted from China and are currently age 7 and age 4. My husband and I are trying to raise our girls to be strong and self-sufficient. The idea of surfing symbolizes this — harnessing the power of the waves and overcoming fears. We live nowhere near the ocean, but the surfboard would be serve as a reminder to my girls to live life to the fullest and “go for it”! Heck, maybe we’ll even take a trip to the ocean and I’ll learn to swm while the girls try surfing!
