I believe my daughter, Gabrielle, is so deserving of this awesome surfboard because she epitomizes what I feel, is the goal of the T9 Amendment: CHALLENGE, COMPETENCE, AND ultimately CONFIDENCE TO BE INSTILLED IN YOUNG GIRLS. Always taking the challenge, she puts her mind, energy and spirit into ALL her endeavors from academics, the arts and athletics. Last summer, we traveled to Maui and she took surfing lessons. In two short hours, with a determined mindset, she rode many waves; an awesome feat for an 8 year old!! Winning this would EMPOWER her to be an amazing, confident surfer!!!
Once upon a time there was a girl who lived in Salt Lake City who didn’t get to surf anymore. She moved to Salt Lake City from Kailua, Hawaii, where she learned to surf. When it came time to move, she had to sell her surfboard because it was too expensive to check it on the plane. She misses that surfboard named “Parmesan” for its worn, yellow coloring and faint crackles from many a glorious ride. She dreams of taking an environmentally sustainable, aesthetically beautiful board out for possibly the first paddle across the Great Salt Lake and then on road trips to the California & Baja coasts in honor of the great Parmesan, who still rides strong in the heart of Honolulu. Mahalo, A Hui Ho.
I learned to surf one year and 8 months after my mother passed away from ovarian cancer. After her passing I struggled to find the balance my life once held. On a business trip to Hawaii I had a free day and took surfing lessons. After a full day, I finally “got it”. Surfing is about preparing mentally & physically to be in the moment. The surfboard will go in my living room and be a constant reminder of balance, my mother, the tickle in my stomach when I’m riding a wave and most importantly – never panic.
I am a surfer, surfer mom and surf artist! I live in Texas and surf any chance I get!!!
If I won the board I would share it with my daughter and use it all the time! I would also use it as a prop in my paintings…I’m always painting surfer girls so I would def. use the surfboard in my work! It would also get great use by my daughters freinds…could even save a life…you never know when swimmers get caught out in the rips and have to get saved by surfers!
As president of the the San Diego Surf Lifesaving Association my passion is to introduce the ocean to kids. We raise funds to teach urban kids how to be safe in an aquatic environment, and learn to swim, surf and paddle. There are kids in San Diego who live five miles from the beach and have never visited it. One of our programs is called Bridge to the Beach. We teach kids to swim in a pool and then bring them to the beach. What a great surfboard to inspire them to excel.
This awesome surfboard would be given to a very special daughter. She would never ask for anything like this but I believe she is very deserving of it. Although I am very partial, she is an amazing athlete and student in college. Competetively swimming since 8 now thru division 1. Straight A’s throughout high school and working to the highest levels in college. She strives to be the best at everything and to research a cure for cancer. Always putting her studies ahead of social or fun. She has always dreamed of learning to surf. Please consider Amy:)
So today I happened to glance down on the table and see your mid-summer catalogue. It’s my mothers, but I saw it and happaned to open it to the page with this contest. I read it and jumped for joy. I live on the Oregon Coast, my house is actually about a mile from the Ocean. For my entire life I have dreamed of surfing. So last year I made it my goal to learn how to actually do it. I bought a wetsuit and asked one of my mom’s friends to help me out. I love it so much. It makes me calm . It is almost summer time and I again want to pursue my dream. However, I can’t afford to buy a surfboard, they are very expensive. I already am working two jobs, but i have to pay for insurance and college tuition. I know this contest is not really aimed towards someone like me, but I would just really appreciate it. So think about me.. I truly feel that I deserve this opportunity.. Thank you.
with a surf board. i would teach my mother to surf. the importance and appreciation for relationships with moms are underestimated. Ok so maybe im not going to win this. . . . but who ever dose i hope you put it to good use, not just for yourself. but to share surfing with someone else, bring someone new in the ocean. Bring a business man, convience him to trade the high class shoes for bare feet for a day. Enjoy the sun reflecting off the water (with sun screeen). realise that the opportunity to feel the cold water against ur exposed skin, using ur strength to battle the ocean, is a gift. Understand sea is everyones mother, we share her with teh rest of the world. And everyone deserves a hug from the mother and our mothers deserve a thank you. So go surfing !
I would love to win this surfboard so that I could give it to my 10 year old daughter, Emily. I have encouraged my daughter from a young age to be active and try new things.I believe that this was the idea behind the original Title IX regulations. Young girls need to have an opportunity to participate in athletics, to build strength, confidence, and imagination. I hope to win this surfboard to give my daughter the opportunity to try a new sport and continue to grow and succeed!
Me, I love speed. I fly single engine airplanes, ride super-sport motorcycles, and skydive. Life happened and I married and had 2 fabulous boys which meant it was time to slow it down a bit. They are 4 & 5 1/2 now…as seen on my website in featured pix….and I feel it is time to have a bit more fun but without the high risks I have always loved. The contest for the surfboard..perfect! I have never been waterbound in my quest for thrills and now would be a great time to find a new passion. Who knows maybe it could become a family thing since we live in San Diego. It would also give e a great excuse to buy cute surfing shorts and swim suits from T9. Gotta go…I think that is the ocean calling.
