Our road-trip ready companions, our most trusted confidants, our ever-encouraging “let’s go outside – and get muddy!” buddies, we don’t know where we would be without our wiggly, panting best friends. On location, our animal extras often end up stealing the show! Want to meet some of ours? Check out our gallery here.
Now, it’s YOUR turn to share your critter companions. Tell us below: who’s your best friend, and what do they mean to you? Don’t be shy about sharing pictures!
Lollipop (so named by my granddaughter) sleeps on our bed. In the morning she rolls over onto her back with one leg sticking up in the air…she gives me “the look”, then…pow…does the serious worm…wiggling back and forth, back and forth. This signifies that it is time to get up and start our day! We live on a steep hill and she runs up the hill while I lag behind. I call her back several times so she walks ten times up the hill to my one! We were not going to get another dog but she was a rescue dog and she probably has the most fun personality of any dog we have had. Lollipop is a keeper!
I have two Pembroke Corgis, Winn (Winsome) and DDare (Double Dare) who compete most weekends in dog agility, and also herd sheep at lessons. Winn just turned 11, and DDare will be 5 this coming weekend. When I compete I am nearly always 100% dressed in T9 wear! It’s comfortable AND LUCKY (ha!)
Harvey or Harvati or Totti is our family’s:
• alarm clock who allows multiple presses of the snooze button
• outdoor adventure instigator
• kayaking companion
• swimming buddy
• tent vestibule guard
• leader of the hike
• running partner
• cross country ski guide
• activator of a positive energy forcefield who restores us on a daily basis
May we all wag more, bark less!
My best buddy is Brogan. He’s the star, I’m just his personal assistant along for the ride. He found me as a 6 week old rescue Rottie and as an adult he trained with me to become a service dog team. We’ve been traveling ever since. He knows ”cookie” in 5 languages and charms people where ever he goes, despite being a ”big bad Rottie”. Actually he’s a big bad softie. He’s flown over 35 times, including being invited into the cockpit for a butt-rub from the pilots. He’s been in the Louvre and the Vatican. He’s climbed hills in Ireland, sand dunes in Spain and castles in Italy. His favorite is riding water buses in Venice and charming bratwurst out of waitresses in Bavaria. We’ve lived in 6 countries together and visited 10 and counting. Where ever he is, that’s home. Last year he got me through cancer. He’s 12 years old now, but still lights up when it’s time to go out and explore. Despite being 46 years old…when I grow up, I want to be as good as he is!
Lincoln my Golden Retriever, is heart dog, my running partner, and my best boy. We compete in Agility, Obedience, Tracking, Barn Hunt, Rally and Conformation together. <3 He is also a certified therapy dog, and we visit hospital and nursing home patients every week.
My best friend BamBam and I love to go tubing and hiking together. He is a rescued 3 lb chihuahua that I take everywhere. He loves to go shopping with me. Everyone in the local stores know him.
Copper is my 1-year-old boxer/doberman, free yard sale pup. I found him during a time when I was really low and feeling lonely in a brand new environment and now we go everywhere together. He is my marathon training/running partner, my off the grid hiking buddy, and he loves to go on long walks at the dog park or play fetch at the beach. He is so full of love and life and can put a smile on anyones face-including the at-risk youth I work with who find it a challenge to find a reason to smile. Copper is my furry pal.
My four legged bff is a 14 year old lab pit bull mix. Loves rides in the car and log walks. She has my back always 😉 Best girl ever. I have pics!!!!!
My Tanka has been with me since 9 weeks, she’s not athletic, as an English Bulldog, but she’s energetic and has some serious hops for a short legged squash faced dog. 6 years has seen us through several moves- including across the country, multiple boyfriends, a major change in jobs, and through depression. She’s my best friend and my entire family here in Texas. She’s always up for a walk, a car ride, snuggling, and games of both fetch and tug. Planning to learn some SUP soon and hope I can find the perfect lifevest for her so she can join me! 🙂
My 7 year old german shepherd is my best friend, work partner, and fur child. He is a police apprehension and narcotic detection K9. We have worked together for five years and do everything together. He sleeps at my side and we protect each other from the evils of the night. I am so lucky to be able to share his life with him. A dog may only be a part of your life, but you are his WHOLE life. -Jen and K9 Ares
