Because we get so many questions about our “models,” I thought I’d share some of our guidelines:
Rule #1: If you’ve always wanted to be a model, you can’t model for us. We only use gals with real bodies — no additives or preservatives.
Our “models” have real jobs or consuming passions. Since we spend a LOT of time with our “models,” they’ve gotta be interesting and interested, someone with whom we’d want to spend a lot of time.
And always, unselfconsciously confident.
In the end, our “models” are regular women, leading regular lives, lives not so very different from our own.
Missy Park, Founder
I saw below that you’re not looking for models right now, but I thought I’d put my name out there as a possible “T9 Role Model.” I’m a 26-year-old athlete living in the Bay Area working on my PhD in medieval Spanish literature. When my nose isn’t stuck in a book, I’m out making the most of what this region has to offer, whether its cycling, training for my next marathon, swimming, doing CrossFit, practicing yoga, or planning to climb my next 14,000 ft peak. I actually live a few blocks down the street from one of your stores and look forward to getting the catalog every season. The image that you put out of what an ideal female body could be is such a refreshing change from other images available to women in the mainstream media and feels like something that I actually WANT to achieve (who wants thighs the size of your arms, anyway? They don’t take you anywhere!!).
I am 47 and my real body is fit,and lean from trail running, cycling and swimming. I have consuming passions, I’m interesting, confident and am on my way to Kenya to do community health assessments. Do I meet your criteria? Oh, no, because I do NOT have flawless skin and impeccable tone. You have great merchandise, but please throw in some honesty to go along with it.
Hi there – I’m a fan of Title Nine clothing but rarely get to wear it as God made me 6’0, and yes I’m a real woman with a “real” body, I did not chose to be the height I am and because I am this height there was a short time that I considered modelling, I don’t see anything wrong with that. I enjoy the bras you sell for smaller cup sizes, and found that a great addition to my lingerie chest. However I am starting to rethink if I want to continue even getting your catalog.
But after reading Missy’s comments I’m really turned off by what you would consider a “role” model. Women are all different shapes and sizes you know. I may not fit in the majority of your clothing line but that doesn’t make me any less of a woman. There are plenty of wonderful and “regular” (or as you probably think “irregular” but whatever) real women who are tall, yes TALL, nothing wrong with that
P.S. I don’t see how “regular” it is to go on a father-daughter fishing trip, learning how to sail and naviaget a Hokule’a, or be a cat whisperer, that sounds pretty special to me.
I also fit the demographics of the responses here at 43 years of age and with a little more in the mid section than the petite, trim models in your catalog. I work out regularly and am a full time mom to 3 kids, who are also very tall. And have a heck of a time finding running tights with a 36″ inseam.
Love it–Something to keep shooting for…thanks !
I would like to submit my 23 year old grand daughter Krisi to you as a gal with a “real body,” a “real job,” numerous passions and someone you would find very interesting.
Since graduating from Central Washington U. with a Bachelor of Science degree in Paramedics and minor Safety Health Management she is employed as a Paramedic by Olympic Ambulance Co. In-between her 48 hour shifts she has been a managing supervisor for excited youngsters and oldsters on the tubing hill at Snoqualmie Pass this winter.
Free time fun finds her riding a snowboard down the slopes, rock climbing, bungee jumping, swimming anytime anywhere, hiking, running the Seattle 1/2 marathon in November and in the past she was a river raft guide. She thinks P90X is great fun and this grandma thinks she would look great in your cloths in your catalogue pictures. Actually her mother, a GI nurse specialist looks fantastic in your cloths also and she is a very interesting person.
Hiya Rose –
Thanks for throwing your granddaughter’s hat into the ring! She sounds like a real go-getter and a well-rounded chica! Most of the time, the women we use are friends of ours. But, sometimes, we use women like Kristi who contact us and say “Hey, I want to come out and play too!” 🙂 That said our models live in or near one of our photo shoot areas: San Francisco and Tahoe, Portland (Maine), Hawaii and Boulder, Colorado. Thank you so much for your interest and should Kristi ever move to one of our photo shoot locations please contact us and we can explore the available potential model opportunities.

I think you should consider me as one of your title nine role models because I run three times a week equaling about 20 + miles, rain or shine; I’ve done HTC many times beyond count, I snowboard in the winter, occassional tennis and kayaking in the summer and I’ve been bowling on a league for the past year (not everyone can say that!). But wait, that’s not all, I’m a Mom and until recently I was working full time – state budget cuts put an end to that. Best of all, I’m actually old enough to remember when Title IX was passed and so truely appreciate all that it means.
Hi Marjorie,
Wow! You do indeed sound like the kind of gal we’d feature in one of our catalogs. Unfortunately at this time, you’d need to live in or around our photo shoot areas: San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, Portland (Maine), Hawaii and Boulder, Colorado. Should you move to one of our locations, please contact us again and we can discuss possible opportunities. Until then, keep on running!!

My nickname is Zan. I practice yoga, swim and run. I have three children, ages 5,7, and 9. I work full time as a City Planner and run a Housing Rehabiliation program for low income families. I received my PhD in Environmental Engineering and published a book three years ago. My life is a full one and it includes Title Nine. I love your clothes and most of my birthday money is usually spent on items from your catalog. Not only do I have a good understanding of what Title Nine really means but I feel like I live it! I love reading the catalog with your models. It’s fun and it’s real.
I’d like to nominate my friend and co-founder of Backcountry Betties & Babies, Heather Kern, to be one of your super role models. She is active and fit, but not perfect. She works full-time as a middle school counselor, but her passions are rock/ice climbing, backcountry skiing, and hiking. One year ago, she started the non-profit organization ‘Backcountry Betties & Babies’ (based in Western Washington), with the goal of helping mothers maintain their outdoorsy passions once they have children. She doesn’t have children of her own yet but hopes to have a strong network of women to get out and climb/ski/hike with once a little one enters the scene. I find her interesting and thought you might too. Thanks for your consideration.
Hiya Carrie –
Thanks for nominating your very own Backcountry Bettie (Heather)! You’re right – she definitely sounds interesting and a real go-getter. We like that here at Title Nine! That being said, at this time our models live in or near one of our photo shoot areas: San Francisco and Tahoe, Portland (Maine), Hawaii and Boulder, Colorado. We assume Heather isn’t moving from her sweet spot anytime soon however, should she pick up and move to one of our photo shoot locations, be sure to have her give us a call! –Jen @T9
Hello Ms. Park and fellow Readers,
First of all, I respect that “real” women are representing Title Nine athletic wear, as it only exemplifies the Title IX passage itself. Title IX denies sexual discrimination in federally funded educational institutions thereby ensuring womens right to participate in athletics . Real, strong, confident women, looking good, while playing real sports.
That said, I would like to be considered for the opportunity of representing Title9 active wear. I have been active for many years in competitive and non-competitive sports: mountain biking, running, swimming, hiking, snowshoeing..and more. My most important role is as a mother. In my career outside my home, I am a clinical nutritionist and practiced in a hospital for many years. I changed careers approximately five years ago and am a Career Advisor in a college. In both roles, my rewards are in empowering people in taking control of their lives. For example, learning to eat right to avoid and/or manage chronic disease, and teaching students to self identify to pursue a career path in which they will be successful and happy.
Sports, and being active enhance mental and physical well being. When I come back from a long run, I’m a better mom and person overall. I would be extremely proud to represent Title Nine when running the 10K mountain race in Leadville Colorado in August of 2011. http://www.leadvilletrail100.com/lt100races/LT10010KRun/overview.aspx
Please consider me as a role model for Title Nine Magazine. Thank you.
Hiya Pat,
Thank you for being a supporter and fan of Title Nine. We think it’s terrific that you understand the meaning of Title IX and what it meant to girls and young women around the nation. While we can consider you a role model because of the terrific work you’re doing, at this time we don’t have any modeling opportunities for our catalog. Should an opportunity arise, we have your contact information and will reach out. Until then, thank you for empowering others and for educating our youth. What you’re doing is inspiring! –Jen@T9
Thanks for the reply Jen, it means quite a lot. I hate to say, being in the work environment I am, I often don’t receive return business calls/emails. I’m not sure if people are too busy, I know you are, or if it doesn’t meet their needs they don’t feel the need to reply. That said, Thanks again and yes, please keep me in mind.
Get out and play!

Since I’m sure u get a lot of these I’ll get right to the point. I’m a 29 year single mom who among other things has a undying passion for surf. I waited most of my adult life to try it and found out it was even better than I imagined. Along with my thirst for surf has come a passion for travel too. I love your product because its for real people with real passions, as I flip through the pages I see my trips and my surf sessions. All I can think is, that’s totally my life, without the killer wardrobe of course I’d love an opportunity to work with a company that simutaneously shares my passion and can help my “Personal Legend” (The Alchemist) be realized. Right now I’m living in Oahu but still lookin for work so not sure how long I’ll be here, I’d love a reason to stay, other than the waves of course. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know how to proceed with this. Thanks for your time!
