Meet up with friends and Portland To Coast team members on Thanksgiving morning for a 4-5 mile walk. I eat guilt free the rest of the day!
Ever since I was a little girl, watching the Macy’s parade has always been a tradition. This year, I’ll curl up in my jammies with hot coffee and my hubby to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary. Had gastric bypass 4 years ago, so don’t really look forward to “the feast” anymore, but after a small portion, we’ll take a slow trot around the neighborhood. Broke my lateral tibia last year and was told I needed a knee replacement. But, it doesn’t hurt, so why fix it? Slowly getting back into shape to snow ski after Christmas.
My husband and I go to an early morning spin class before we head to the local high school football game. The turkey is usually in the oven, and we come home tired, sweaty and hungry. The delicious smells in the house are so enticing!
I’m personal trainer who specializes in outdoor fitness in Portland, Oregon. My clients love that I offer some sort special event around Thanksgiving. Sometimes its a post turkey workout the day after Thanksgiving. This year we’ll do a 2 mile walk or 4 mile run. And since I open it up to the community it gives folks an opportunity to find potential workout buddies to stay motivated through the dark, raining holiday season of the great Northwest. I’m truly thankful to play a part in healthier lifestyles of so many. Whoohoo!
I make bread stuffing from scratch (my dad’s recipe) the night before which is at the ready the morning of Thanksgiving to be stuffed in a 25-lb. turkey. I also bake homemade fudge brownies the night before.
I run the 5-mile Turkey Trot Run Thanksgiving morning which is 3 miles away from my home.
When I arrive home after the race, I just stuff the bread stuffing in the bird and bake away.
For the second year, I’ll kick off Turkey Day with a 4-miler at a local country club. My friends and I brave the cold Ohio morning to run a 3,000-person race, and we are rewarded with a bottle of wine for the dinner table! The best part…it gets me out of the house for a few hours and puts someone else in charge of putting the turkey in the oven! 😛 (This is also the second year I’m the host to 11 adults, 4 children and 3 dogs on Thanksgiving day!)
I work at a gym and we’re traditionally closed the day after Thanksgiving but many of the instructors meet up for a little “ninja” workout just to bust the Thanksgiving guilt!
I started running late this summer and my goal is to run the Chicago Marathon next year on my daughter’s behalf, who has Cornelia deLange Syndrome. A team runs for the syndrome each year. I’ve been wanting to do this now for some time. I’ve given myself a year to prepare. Right now I run 3 days a week training for a 1/2 marathon in the spring. I run 5K’s when I can on the weekends.
Well, it’s just my luck…our town is sponsoring a “Turkey Trot” of their own. I’ll not only be running the 5K but also hosting Thanksgiving. What am I nuts? It’s really not going to be that bad…only my husband’s parents, husband, 2 children, a dog and me!!!! All I need is a little preparation to get some things done a few days beforehand!
Always pound the pavement in the morning and then eat the entire afternoon away … it is gross, but tradition!
I started running in January of 2007 and have run quite a few races. But this year will be my first Turkey Day run (10K). I am seriously looking forward to burning off a little energy and hitting my zone before I head to the in-laws for too many people, too much noise and too much food!
Every year for 15 years, I’ve made a huge Thanksgiving feast – five to seven courses, cooking for 2 days straight. This year, I’ve decided on a low-stress feast, just 3 courses/4 people, so that I can finally run a Turkey Trot! I talked my bf into doing it too (he’ll walk :-p ).
My other Thanksgiving tradition is to hike early in the morning the Friday afterward. It really is the most peaceful day and time – right alongside early New Year’s morning – the trail is filled with people glad to be outside!
