Day 6: Where do you “get lost”?
We know you’re Wonder Woman, but everyone needs a break sometime! When the go, go turns into no, no! Is there a place you go to tune it all out? Do you lose yourself on a hike in your local regional park or do you run until street names are unrecognizable?
The Challenge: Wherever it may be, tell us about this oasis that keeps you sane. Who knows? You might just inspire someone else to find their own private getaway. Submit your story and/or a picture of your favorite spot and you could win a limited edition Power of 9 Tee and Title Nine water Bottle. Who says getting lost is a bad thing? Don’t wait, get entered>

I get lost in moments that my son notices and stops me with the questions and then with the story that goes along with it. As you can see in this photo we completely got lost.
The detour sign on the beach by a boat that shouldn’t be there and a child who told me that it was a secret band of pirates coming to eat bagels on the beach.
Two hours later the sun was setting and we were still lost in a great story, running, jumping, chasing waves, hunting for treasure, taking pratfalls, and playing around.
The best is we take those moments and try to capture images that we turn into stories. I tend to recapture those moments when I’m in a tough moment of work, life etc to get lost again.
Our front porch. I know it isn’t very romantic or wild, but it works for me. We live an a small town, so there is not much traffic and we have red buds near the end of our long front yard so a lot of the view of the road is blocked. And the porch swing… well, it is a wonderful place to get lost. This summer I have trying to make more moments to enjoy the peace and quiet – either with the family, just my husband, or even moments stolen after the supper dishes are done. 🙂
I like to escape to the dirt. Whether it be trail running or mountain biking I like the road less traveled to find sanity again 🙂 My last challenge was driving for 5 days with two kids under 5 years old by myself. I couldn’t just run or bike when things got a little crazy 🙂 So instead… i found my “road less traveled” and drove it while my two kids were sleeping in the back (ahhh peace)… As I drove this remote road that was not on the gps and I HOPED we would find the interstate again at some point as I didn’t have much water or gas… but I did run across these sleeping cows in the middle of the road. Nothing like a little inner cowgirl yelling YEEEHAW out the window and herding cattle on some random road. AH .. Now i feel good and refreshed!
A fabulous place to lose myself is in Ouray, Colorado. We have a summer cabin, there, and the whole area is heaven on earth. Our cabin is by Lake Lenore, and it’s so special to have the peace of the lake and the grandeur of the mountains around us.
There are amazing hikes all around the area and a fantastic half marathon there, too, in August each year, from Ouray to Ridgway.
HEAVEN!
i get lost @ McKinney Roughs State Park in Bastrop Texas. This is one of the parks that escaped the great fires of 2o11. It’s a most beautiful landscape. The trails go on for miles. Several of the trails run along side the southern Colorado river. It’s a great spot for listening to the birdies sing. There are many great hills and ravines to climb and descend. It’s all good. Peace abounds.
I’m a firm believer that we cannot wait until a vacation to get away, but that we need to have daily escapes and time for renewal. My daily escapes are found in the woods and lakes around my home, from which I can choose a number of running routes, that provide me with a regular source of mind, body renewal.
When those vacation days do come around, I prefer to head to the mountains, or for a closer get-away, my husband, son, and I retreat to our property at “the end of the road” a few miles from Ely, Minnesota. Here we disconnect from technology, and connect with the land allowing us all to appreciate and recognize the need to slow down, listen to the world around us, and tune out the constant noise of our daily lives.
While I don’t go often, I had a wonderful opportunity to get lost in the beauty of the Grand Canyon while hiking Rim to Rim over Memorial Day weekend. It was magificent…if it was closer, it would be a wonderful place to “escape” to more often. 🙂
So many places to go here in the northern woods of Maine….this is where I get lost. Where ever my head is at, this place allows me to do it all. It challenges and inspires me emotionally and physically. Water for kayaking and swimming, trails for hiking, running and mountain biking. Thousands of acres of undeveloped shoreline, pristine views and few people make my backyard the best place to loose yourself and find yourself all at the same time…
I get lost in my garden. It is my pride and joy, my solace, my canvas for new designs and it is my kitchen, complete with sink. Scattered throughout are flowers and vegetables, found objects and creations of my own that add whimsy. I lose track of time while in my garden “zone.” I am so grateful for the space to cultivate my soul.
Running along the Springwater Corridor in Portland, OR. It goes on seemingly forever and lets me enjoy views of the river, neighborhoods and the wildlife refuge. It’s my peaceful place!
