It’s amazing how compelling obstacles can become. Sometimes, I can’t tear my eyes away from the drop-off on the left, even though I should be looking at the line I need to hold on the trail. So in life, I find that I am most successful if I can will myself to block out the barriers and focus all my energy on the end. So here’s to seeing the trail and not the drop-off, focusing on the opportunity rather than the risks, seeing the finish line rather than the hurdles.

And sometimes it works to see the hurdles as part of the journey to the finish line – obstacles that can and will be overcome with effort, creating such a great feeling of satisfying accomplishment !
I also think that while one can “block out the barriers” you can still take time to enjoy the journey and not just the end destination.
That steep drop off on the left may have some spectacular scenery, of course enjoying that would be easier if you were going on foot rather than bike wheel 😉
Perfect reminder to keep my eyes on the prize. I struggle with this on race days. Usually it’s in the last miles of the race, I start to itemize the aches and pains I’m feeling rather than the finish line. It’s a learned skill!
