Working Out
I am thankful for the instructors at the small girls’s school in the white mountains of NH I attended over 50 years ago. St. Mary’s in the Mountains (now the White Mountain School)instilled all 23 graduates in my class with strength and independence at a time when girls were not expected to be strong and independent. I am thankful for my husband who has supported me in starting and growing a small business. I am thankful for my daughter who has become a beautiful strong Colorado mountain woman who has run the Grand Canyon in her own single cat-a-raft and skies, snow boards, runs and mountain bikes.
Wow, so many strong women in your life! I love that your story shows how each woman affects the woman after her. Your teachers to you, and you to your daughther. We are thankful for all of you!
Please take me off your catalog and email lists.

My daughters Pam and Robyn Barker make me proud every day for the examples they set in their respective communities. Pam is a leader in Emotional learning and intelligence applying her knowledge to assist at risk preteens discover their potential and increase their sense of self worth. She is also a lead mediator for restorative justice in Colorado. Her sister overcame a vision disability to become a creative business owner and has served as a volunteer fire woman in Manitou Springs where she coordinated the evacuation of the entire town without incident or injury. She is also a runner having completed 20 successive years of the Bolder Boulder. She has also done the race the peak and the Ascent of Pikes Peak, our local fourteener. Both of my daughters paid for and completed degrees. Pam is a RPT specializing in chronic pain. I am proud to have two women who exemplify today’s Real Women!
They sound like remarkable women Kathy. No doubt it has a lot to do with you!
I am thankful for my mom and all the moms who supported us. When I was running cross country in the late 1970s and early 1980s, racing clothes for women were even a thing yet. Kudos to the moms who sewed up the armholes on our singlets (which basically reached to our belly buttons) so that we had racing clothes in our school colors to fit us. They were there to cheer us on, too…no matter where we ran!
I am grateful for Title 9, (the store too) because the ruling gave young girls a helping hand, a chance to go to college on a sports scholarship. I’m grateful for Babe D. Zaharias, Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, Billie Holiday and the many women who came behind them!!
Those are just some of the women who paved the way for the young girls today who have it much easier then we older women had it growing up in the 50’s.
There are no limits to what these young girls of today will become!! Go Girls!!
Great list of women! Babe Zaharias is one of our favorites. Golf, basketball AND track & field? She was amazing.
I am thankful for my Mom! She always told me I could do anything I put my mind to! And, when I considered giving up, she was relentless in nudging me forward. Her faith in me was unconditional and constant!
Hurray for awesome moms!
Lucy Stone, the first woman to attend Oberlin College and a prominent women’s rights speaker in her day. Also retained her maiden name after marriage and given credit for appearing in public in pants.
Wow. What a cool story. We are definitely going to learn more about her!
Thankful for the women who protected my right to choose and to prevent unwanted pregnancies, without which I would never have been able to become the academic trauma surgeon and leader in my field that I am today.
Thank you for sharing your story Marie, and for being a leader in such an important field!
I am thankful for Jackie Joyner Kersee for being a great role model for girls.
Yes! So many amazing women athletes to be thankful for.
I am thankful for my mom. She surrounded me with amazing women who worked so hard to help others. She helped me become the woman I am.
