Working Out
The clothes should with and for you. Say, the running shoe, the gear that keeps us warm n muscles loose, the glow of trim in the dark. They move with us and fashionable for work and play. Love these clothes and shoes.
I believe in the power of Love and the power of Prayer. I, too believe that outdoors is better than in and that we have no idea how amazing our womanly bodies truly are until we push them to the limits of childbirth or road races. I believe that Montana is beautiful all year round, but fall leaves are especially AmAzInG!!!
I believe in kindness, and thoughtfulness first
“I believe that our motivation to run may be different, but the gifts of running are Universal. ”
I am a novice runner who recently completed the 208 mile Reach The Beach Relay Race in NH. Here is my story:
THE HUG
Heading out for this first run, I didn’t know HOW or WHAT it would be for me. At one moment I briefly felt a wave of emotion… feeling so grateful to be out on the pavement. Grateful to actually be doing a full “leg.” All the emotion from this journey… what I needed this training to do for my life…. what I wanted this training/race to do for my life…. then the journey through unexpected injury… and THIS moment.
Quickly and surprisingly- that little moment of emotion passed- as I lost myself in the beautiful scenery and transitioned out of my head and into my body. I marveled at my foot taking this pounding. When I hit mile 3, I smiled realizing that this was FURTHER than I had run in over 6 weeks. In fact I had only run a total of 5 times in the past 10 weeks. (yup- my runner friends will appreciate what that means. Pretty much no running for 2 1/2 months and my first major run was in the White Mountains!) I just tried to be present, enjoying feeling my legs do this work. I love feeling my legs work during a run. God knows sometimes & some runs are not enjoyable, but this one- this one was total pleasure.
It was early morning. There was a dense fog. This leg was supposed to be one of the more scenic ones – but the fog prevented me from seeing Mount Washington. Things are not always what you expect…. and so much of life is a lesson in letting go! Instead of being disappointed that the fog prevented a view of an incredible mountain, I thought of it as a blanket keeping me safe on this mountain run. And the fog became a comfort… like a hug.
As I descended through the mountains, the fog began to lift and
so did my sadness related to my injury. I received a glimpse of my future… my post injury running future. I was surrounded by supportive friends who knew on some level that this race was a way to help me stay whole.
And just then, I saw a yellow RTBR sign indicating my transition zone was close ahead. “What?” I thought…. I thought I had another mile or so to go?!? And for a moment I actually felt sad that this “Leg” was ending. As I rounded the corner…. I saw Jennifer standing at the highway’s edge… looking out for me. The first to cheer me in, signaling to the rest of my team that I was headed in. A little further I saw the rest of Van 1. I approached my teammate Ashely but before allowing me to hand-off the relay snap bracelet, she paused and gave me a big hug. This hug represented so much.
And that’s the thing about being at an event like this. We know as runners there are so many stories out there…. so many personal triumphs….. and so many different reasons why we choose to run. The stories may be different but the gifts of running are UNIVERSAL. And at this moment, one of the gifts was friendship.
I believe that everyone can benefit from the outdoors. Clothing and equipment that fits a variety of body shapes and sizes is one way to encourage people to enjoy being comfortable, and enjoy being, and exploring outside.
I believe that being IN nature is an awesome way to feel the power of God – and to strengthen the body, mind and spirit he has given me. Psalm 19 says it all!! A perfect day consists of kayaking through bays and lagoons that snake through spectacular mangrove forests and lead to the Gulf of Mexico; walking on an unspoiled island beach for hours; or jet skiing and tubing in the warm Florida waters – and ending the day by a bonfire underneath the starlit sky. I believe that exercise and these experiences are best when shared with friends – or strangers who need friends. And that the most comfortable way to do it all is in Title 9 skorts and tops that go the distance!
In the Title 9 world, I believe that if you really were committed to women’s apparel that fits well and comfortably, you’d add petite sizing. Your clothing is pricey, and I cannot spend that kind of money on things that will then need additional investment in alterations. After all these years, I still don’t understand why no petite sizing. I’m willing to pay $ for good quality, and have been pleased with my purchases, but I’m limited to purchasing only tops – and then rolling up the sleeves and being somewhat unhappy with them being generally too long.
I believe that being vulnerable is sexy!
I believe at age 71 I can maintain a high level of physical condition to hike, climb and travel wherever my heart leads me. Physical fitness is for everyone, regardless of your age.
I believe in clothing that is as carbon-neutral in its production as possible and that is created in an environment that produces fair pay for the work done and is worker safe.
