My last adventure was a trip to East Africa with the family. In 1992 I was an intern at the Boston Museum of Science and the IMAX film was “Africa the Serengeti”. I watched it about 20 times and vowed that someday I would go there and see it in person. It took me 20+ years to get there but I got to share the adventure with my kids husband which made it even more amazing! We are American Expats who recently moved from South Korea to South Africa so we didn’t have as far to travel to experience this amazing part of the world. I’m writing about our adventure at http://www.teamstolasz.blogspot.com
Last great adventure was an impromptu 40 mile road ride with one of my greatest friends since high school. I have a hard time with the concept- not every ride is a race. I’m typically not very social when I ride, run, race, etc. This was a great opportunity to ride for the pure enjoyment of riding, despite the cold temps and rain. Both of us have crazy complicated lives and it was the perfect chance to catch up, enjoy each others company, and just ride. She is an amazing, genuine person who is a great example of finding joy in life and not sweating the small stuff. Happy to have had the adventure with her even if we went into survival mode the last 10 miles due to the numbness in our extremities!
My most recent adventure was our 21st trip to St John, USVi, where I received many complements on my Title Nine dresses:)

My last great adventure was biking in Ireland with two other couples. My husband planned the three week self contained trip. We averaged 40 miles a day and stayed in B&B’s each night. The great thing is we are all of Medicare age! What a hoot!!
Where I live, Mother Nature breaks her own riles periodically likes to throw some wicked weather curveballs. Mother’s day for example dawned cold, dreary and snowy. That’s Colorado in the springtime for you. While I’ve lived here many years, sometimes I long for the consistency of the east coast spring where April showers truly did bring May showers – not May snowstorms. But alas, I never let Fickle Ms. Nature deter me. Unfortunately, the ‘adventure’ I’ll refer to in this post is not the ideal outdoor trail run or mountain hike I crave but one of the indoor fitness variety. Having given birth to my second daughter 5 months ago, I’m itching to get out of the house more and not just one a hike or training run with her in tow. Fellow mom friends have been raving about the local rec centers fitness classes and programs so after dropping my eldest daughter off at preschool I decided to give one a shot. Arriving before the nursery opened, I opted for a spin class thinking it would be a breeze, I’d park her in her stroller in the corner and she’d sleep through it. Not so. She woke up 15 minutes before the class and mid way through demanded a bottle which I luckily had on hand. The thrill of the class turned out not only to be the incessant burn in my quads but the fact that I got a solid new workout, forgot about my stay-at-home status for a brief spell and best of all, fed her a bottle one-handed whilst enduring a 65RPM hill climb on top resistance. Take that Mother Nature!
Every day is an adventure. My latest big adventure was taking the family an ocean away to New Zealand. Not only was it a trip of our lifetime, it helped us realize the need to live and explore as a family. Whether hiking along streams and waterfalls, swimming at Abel Tasman National Park, watching Dusky Dolphins’ aerobatic displays, cruising through the fiords, quietly walking through trenches at eye-level with Yellow-eyed Penguins, glowworm spotting on a night hike, or sitting in a thermal fed natural “hot tub”, the whole family indulged in these new experiences together. We returned home committed to more lifetime trips and experiences. We may never have a big house but we will all have memories of experiences that will nourish our souls and feed our personalities to build solid foundations for us to take on any future challenges.
We just got back from a week-long fishing trip in the eastern Sierras. My 10 yr old twins compete to see who catches the biggest fish. Truth be told, all 4 of us try to catch the biggest one! This time it was my son that caught the biggest. They get so proud when my husband cooks up what they catch and they get to actually eat what they caught!
My last adventure- snorkeling and hiking in the Galapagos!! Awesome! My favorite new
shirt that I wore everyday was my heatwave hoody. I bought one for me and my teen daughter. They were great!
I have photos but can’t get them to link up
thanks!!
My latest adventure also involved a bike. Must be that time of year!
I have recently been thrown into the world of caregiver for my 23 year old son who was hit by a car last summer. I had the opportunity recently to try out a bike that has a wheelchair on front for him. It was So much fun! He could feel the wind on his face and enjoy the feeling of speed. I loved being able to do it. (And we made quite the sight in the neighborhood. He’s 6’2″ 155 lbs and I am 5’4″ and somewhat less than 155. An adventure for sure, even if it took place on sedate suburban neighborhood streets. 🙂
Just this morning went out on an early morning paddle board. Got to see the huge orange moon setting in the west and then an hour later watched the sun rise over the Pamlico sound. Saw lightening bugs first thing and then Osprey and Sea Gulls diving for their breakfast. Wonderful way to start the day!
