Once upon a time long, long ago at Title Nine our founder (Missy Park) wasn’t too keen on skirts or dresses, so getting them in the catalog was a tough sell. This was before we became enlightened. We thought that a skort (not the old school kind that looked like shorts in the back – ugh!) would be the perfect thing for the gal on the go. You can still look dressed up and a little girly but in a very functional piece of clothing that allows you to climb fences – or heck, even run and do cartwheels if you want.
We began offering skorts that looked stylish instead of dorky (hidden shorts with nifty stash pockets), and using technical materials to achieve the ultimate in form and function. Soon we were working to get every skirt we saw turned into a skort (well not every skirt but close!). Our customers saw the practicality of skorts and started buying them as fast as we could make them… and they still do!
That’s how skorts were born here at Title Nine.
The End.

“My middle name is Pants. Or rather I should say my middle name is No Skirts, Dresses or Anything Close. But then my life was changed by the Run Around Skort.
Folks in the office here at Title Nine were convinced if they could get one on me, I would be a convert. Years and months passed. Conspiracies were launched in an effort to have me wear one. Finally our head merchant, Alice, said she had one she knew I would love and would I be willing to simply give it a try? I relented and the rest is history.
The Run Around Skort is simply awesome. Alice gave me two and I have run, bike commuted to work, gone out to dinner, walked around Lake Merritt and even took a photo of me in one for my Mom. It is extremely comfortable, dries super quick, and I feel fashionable wearing it! I still adore pants but I am happy to now have to change my middle name. ”

Like the rest of you I have found a select one or two skorts that I love, especially since I can go from looking nice at work to a trail run. However, perhaps unlike the rest of you I carry a little extra in my thighs and still have a hard time finding a skort that works… The 3″ inseam shorts?? Not with these thighs.
If anyone can point me in the direction of a skort that has a non-ride-up short, I’d sure appreciate it!!!
I’ve always had a miserable time buying shorts… I could never find the right length, and when I did the fit just wasn’t flattering. Like others, after having my first child I found myself needing a functional piece of clothing that made me look good and allowed me to roll around on the ground with my daughter. Being in Florida at the time, pants were not the best option. I happened across my first pair of skorts and haven’t looked back. I can’t find a pair of shorts that make me look as good. I can wear them anywhere and do just about anything- I especially love to wear them sailing. I was so glad to see such a huge selection online at Title Nine since I’ve been combing stores for them the past couple years!
This email made me laugh this morning becauseI have had one title 9 skort FOREVER, and it has seen me through several clothing sizes. I wore it in ST. Thomas being post-baby size 14, over 7 years ago. I am now a much fitter size and it still fits me. Last year it went with me to Miami, Texas, TN, NH, and Orlando. It is a vacation staple! My running group laughs at me, yet this Jan in Miami two of the girls showed up wearing skorts! The skort is happy shorts. When I wear my skort I feel free and powerful. I am excited to see where me and my next skort go this year. I finally must retire my old skort – after almost a decade of use it is wearing (but I must admit only slightly).
I love your Horny Toad skort. It is the only one I can find in a size 2. How about more skorts and pants in that size? Please?
After a long day of teaching Kindergarten, I received a call from a father who asked if his daughter had fallen on the playground and hit her head. My heart started pounding and I quickly said that I hadn’t seen anything on the playground. I had noticed this cute little skort on her and joking with her asked if it came in my size. She replied, “I don’t know but it sure is too small on me.” I didn’t think anything of it because she’s one of those little girls who is adorably a little messy, wearing her clothes twisted about, etc. Oddly, he started laughing. He explained he had dressed his four daughters that morning and sent them off to school. However, his wife never told him “that there are skirts that have legs.” Unknowingly, he had sent his 5 year old off to school with both legs in one leg hole and the poor thing had spent the whole day thinking that her skirt was just too small. Imagine trying to get up the stairs on the bus with both legs squished into one leg hole!! Gotta love those Mr. Moms!
where were skorts 35 yrs ago when i was climbing on the monkey bars and “jeff” was looking up my skirt….much to my embarressment, i realized later that our golden retreiver had chewed holes in my panties!
yike!
i’ve never seen jeff again and hope not to!
Let’s be clear about one thing right off the bat: I hate my knees. I’ve got strong, athletic legs, but funny looking knees. I prefer Bermuda shorts and skirts with a long, clean line. The world of short shorts and skorts was alien to me. Those articles of clothing exposed my funky looking knees, and I wanted none of that.
Title Nine loves skorts. Our head merchant, our founder, practically everyone dons a skort every day during the spring and summer. My entire staff told me that the Run Around Skort would change my life. So I bought one, and they were right. Don’t ask me how, but my knees didn’t look ridiculous. My legs actually looked great. I stood in front of the mirror, confused.
It was the most comfortable piece of clothing I had worn in years. It appeared to be magic in that I didn’t hate my knees. I could wear it to work, or wear it to the company Olympics as a functional piece of athletic gear. The stretchy, soft boy shorts under the skirt ensured fully coverage and they’re cute. I found myself wanting to buy a Run Around Skort for every day of the week. I started telling my friends and family about how much I loved the Skort. It was getting a little embarrassing, but I felt it was my duty to dispel the commonly held myth that skorts were silly. They are magic.
Now that Spring has sprung I’m eagerly awaiting the temperature to warm to skort weather. I look longingly at the skorts in my closet, willing the sun to make an appearance. I “almost” wore one this morning, but it was still in the 40’s. That may be pushing it.
Mary Anne was trying to help a customer one day. She thought the customer had asked for some skirts, and brought her a bunch. About 2 minutes after going into the dressing room the customer leaned out, a look of concern – “they forgot to put the shorts in this one!” We make sure to verify our vowels before we start pulling clothes for customers now 🙂
When I first started working here, I wouldn’t have been caught dead in a skort. Seriously. I started in November and by early spring, I felt like I had become pretty good friends with people here. That is until the skorts showed up. The first day we unpacked them, the assistant manager looked right at me, and in accusatory tone, said, “I bet YOU’RE going to be a skort wearer!.” Why was she so mean to me?? What did I ever do to deserve that?? I was devastated ( J) Turned out she was right! Never got into the no-brainer, but I love that court skort… I think I own 3 of em. Great for working, running around, changing lightbulbs up on a ladder, bending over to unpack boxes. Then when it’s time to go out ( for a drink) after work, I look decent!
I used to wear skirts all the time. They’re comfortable, convenient… and living in California, I can get away with bare legs for 9 months of the year. But when I had kids, I found myself spending a lot of time sitting on the floor, crawling, rolling around – activities not conducive to skirt-wearing. So without even realizing it, I moved away from skirts and started wearing pants almost every day.
Enter the skort. I had never really considered buying a skort – in fact, I sort of forgot they existed, as I hadn’t really heard anyone talking about skorts since junior high. But since taking a job with Title Nine, skorts have become part of my every-day vocabulary.
Bought my first one a few weeks ago. Bought two more within a few days, and have been wearing skorts just about every day since.
Last weekend, sporting one of my new skorts, my 3-year old son and I were grocery shopping. He wanted to ‘help’ me, so I let him out of the shopping cart to walk next to me. He noticed for the first time that I was wearing something… different. He grabbed the bottom of my skort, and while lifting it asked “Mom, what’s this? WHAT are you wearing?” Confident that my skort would protect me from indecent exposure (he was peeking underneath, not very subtly), I explained what a skort was – a skirt you can run and jump in, and not worry about your underpants showing. He agreed it was a great concept, and asked if he could have one, just like mine.
