Once upon a time long, long ago at Title Nine our founder (Missy Park) wasn’t too keen on skirts or dresses, so getting them in the catalog was a tough sell. This was before we became enlightened. We thought that a skort (not the old school kind that looked like shorts in the back – ugh!) would be the perfect thing for the gal on the go. You can still look dressed up and a little girly but in a very functional piece of clothing that allows you to climb fences – or heck, even run and do cartwheels if you want.
We began offering skorts that looked stylish instead of dorky (hidden shorts with nifty stash pockets), and using technical materials to achieve the ultimate in form and function. Soon we were working to get every skirt we saw turned into a skort (well not every skirt but close!). Our customers saw the practicality of skorts and started buying them as fast as we could make them… and they still do!
That’s how skorts were born here at Title Nine.
The End.

“My middle name is Pants. Or rather I should say my middle name is No Skirts, Dresses or Anything Close. But then my life was changed by the Run Around Skort.
Folks in the office here at Title Nine were convinced if they could get one on me, I would be a convert. Years and months passed. Conspiracies were launched in an effort to have me wear one. Finally our head merchant, Alice, said she had one she knew I would love and would I be willing to simply give it a try? I relented and the rest is history.
The Run Around Skort is simply awesome. Alice gave me two and I have run, bike commuted to work, gone out to dinner, walked around Lake Merritt and even took a photo of me in one for my Mom. It is extremely comfortable, dries super quick, and I feel fashionable wearing it! I still adore pants but I am happy to now have to change my middle name. ”

Hi,
Would you be able to make a below the knee skort? kinda like a board short skort? I don’t like that area between my thigh and knee to be exposed and also a super big one like in a 2X….just wondering 🙂 thnks
I’m with you Julia!!! 🙂
I have a bum not suited for shorts. And I have stubby legs, so I’m not a big fan of capris. I always wore skirts in the summer. Then the advent of children. One wise friend told me about skorts. I thought they were a bit dorky. I mean obviously I would be the mom in the cute skirt not showing anything, right? I’m so glad I changed my mind. Skorts have saved me at the play ground. Skorts have saved me at the beach. Skorts saved me on Tuesday at my daughter’s school. Why she needed to pull up my skirt to see what was underneath is beyond me, but thank heavens the preschool class didn’t get an anatomy lesson! I adore being able to be the hands-on mom who doens’t have to subject the world to my rear in shorts! Thank you Title Nine for having such a wonderful choice of skorts!!!! I finally lost the baby weight so I’ll be in the Pearl store soon to get my summer fun, new skorts.
In the early days of skorts, I bought one that had convenient snaps down one side. I wore these until they all but fell off my body! One day, while grocery shopping, I caught the edge of the snap side of the skort on the grocery cart and was observed in the dairy section with my skort around my ankles! It was a good laugh for everyone and a test of my triathlon transitioning skills to get that skort back on and snapped, asap! I have 4 skorts and hike and walk in them, but find them unacceptable for road or mnt biking as they get caught on the horn of the bike saddle.

I’m a dog trainer, a ‘pet behavior counselor,’ but mostly, just dogs. I spend a lot of time bending, moving, and bouncing around in the yard, the house, the grass, the dirt! It’s hard to stay cute when you’re covered in paw prints but I love, love, LOVE my skorts! Easy to wear, easy to wash and keep clean, and easy to maintain a professional (and feminine) appearance. Thanks, Title 9.
I may be in the minority, but I CAN’T STAND SKORTS! I find them completely constraining. The wonderful thing about a skirt is the feeling of freedom it imparts. I’ll stick with tradition–skirts or shorts!
I purchased a skort (can’t remember how you named it) from you several years ago by Patagonia. It quickly became a favorite summer piece because although it was built for a tomboy it looked polished. Returning from vacation I boarded a flight with a container of soup. Within 10 minutes of sitting down I had spilled a half cup on my lap. Tomato based of course. I quickly began my clean up and within one hour my (tan) skort was dry and barely stained. I rest my case, Title Nine buyers know how to please their customers. Every woman should have at least one skort in her closet.
Back in the 80’s, when I was in college, I was wearing a fitted miniskirt at a bar. I was making eye contact with a great looking guy across the room and we were smiling at each other. All of a sudden, my miniskirt was around my mid section and one of my girlfriends behind me yelled, “It’s DRESS UP day!” as she was pulling up my skirt. Imagine her surprise if I had actually been wearing a skort. I wish I had been.
I am an avid skort wearer and have been for years now. I am a mom of 3 boys and if I occasionally put on a miniskirt, I regret it all day long!
I was tired of baggy shorts and capris, as comfortable as they were, and seeing the ugly results in summer pictures with my toddlers. Last year I bought the Duway Patagonia skirt (actually a skort) and suddenly I looked more together and much thinner in every picture taken. The real bonus was that I was cooler myself, everything the kids spilled or wiped on me came off the fabric, and I didn’t have to worry about bending over or squatting down to deal with my little people. I can’t wear them ( I bought two more) year round in Seattle, but I definitely won’t wear anything else during the months that allow for bare legs this year!!
Maybe I sound like I’m obsessed with how I look in pictures, but it’s certainly nice not to cringe when I am in a shot with the kids and I think more than a few mothers out there will agree with me on that! I also love the fact that there is total freedom of movement without the worry of how much underwear anyone might see and when I sit down somewhere, I don’t feel like I’m, well, too intimate with the last person/creature who might have sat down in the same spot. Hooray for good skorts (and there are bad ones out there….) and hooray for Title 9 where I got my first one in something like 15 years!
I love skorts, too, for many of the same reasons as mentioned: they look respectable yet feel like shorts! I teach grade school, and I need to be able to sit on the floor, toss football, sweep up spilled fruit snacks, and meet with a grumpy parent all on the same day; the skort is perfect for all those activities! The only failure is that they are not helpful on the days I work at the local bike shop and need to test ride a bike. Swinging a leg over a top tube is not easy in a skort unless it is a completely stretchy fabric; mine aren’t. Other than that, though, I love them!
I have never been a fan of skorts–not that I ever tried one! (Do coullottes from the 70’s count?) Recently, I’ve been looking for comfortable shorts to run in but could find nothing that didn’t make me look like a blue whale. Suddenly it dawned on me–why not a skort? I ordered the Harmony skort and wore last night on the treadmill at the gym. Voila! I’m a convert.
