I run so I don’t go crazy. I run to know I am alive and kicking. I run because I will not go gently into that sweet night.
I love the freedom of running. I love my alone time with my thoughts. I love the feel of the pavement pounding under me and my heart racing.
I used to run to be thin when I was younger now I walk to keep my mind and body healthy and sane! Lol
Last year this time, I lost a young client. One morning walk right after her death, I felt like I needed to be faster, to hurtle myself through space, to feel my body, to feel alive. So I started to run and I didn’t stop. Today, I run for myself, but I always think of my young client. A part of me runs for her.
I run because I feel like I am 16 instead of 52!
I am 65 years old and have run in some on the most amazing places. I started running after a back injury kept me from playing Field Hockey. Completing my first marathon was one of the highlights of my life.. Every place I traveled in my 20’s I found a race or beautiful place to run. In my 30’s I was teaching at a college campus on a lake and running by it was too beautiful to ignore. Fun runs with the kids followed, and yes they now run. Fast forward to my 60’s and a knee replacement.. Run? You bet. Slowly and usually on soft surfaces. A few weeks ago it was the 7 mile run across the Mackinaw Bridge with the sun rising as we crossed the bridge. I passed (if only briefly) a young female running who looked at me and gave me a fist bump. Yep.. amazing places, amazing people.. Keep running.
I run to feel strong, to give my daughter a role model to strive for, and so I don’t have to watch every calorie that I eat.
Because I really like beer.
I run ro stay sane so I can love more, feel more and hurt less. Below is a picture of my BRF who I left behind in Colorado. This was this years Title 9k in Boulder, a yearly tradition for us. It was an off year, cold, snowy and the first year I have beat my fast BRF due to her being a few months post partum. But you know what, we had fun and after we thawed out , we drank coffee and laughed about how bad we torure ourselves!
This picture shows the love I have for the sport and my friend:-)
Love you! We will race again soon!
For Health, Happiness, Family and “ME” time! And to keep my son excited about running, he has ran all sorts of “Themed” 5K’s since he was 5 years old (now 9) and still loves it! It is also one of our families favorite family time events as Dad gets out there too! Latest challange was ‘Color Me Rad” over the weekend. My son and I ran it and my son was soooo excited to pop his color bomb he ended up getting me right in the face (TG my mouth was closed for once).
