Working Out
Thank you, Missy, for stating the painful fact that there is too much pink in October. I dislike pink with a passion because of it. It is a painful reminder of my own scare and unnecessary tests years ago when I had 3 toddlers to care for. Yes awareness is key, but please, can we change October back to ORANGE and move beyond not just awareness but towards a cure?
Missy Park, you are one a few who is brave and courageous enough to challenge the status quo and speak your mind. I completely agree with your logic and critical thinking. Too many times, the popular mantra is picked up and repeated again and again without such critical and analytical thinking. We need more voices like yours who are asking the hard questions while refusing to accept the bymissal progress this campaign has so far made.
I too join you in a healthy lifestyle and proactive preventive choices everyday!
I choose organic, locally grown foods and am active daily to prevent cancers. When will we see a movement to reduce/prevent exposure to known carcinogens? Awareness and early detection is clearly not enough!
Missy, thanks for having the courage to stand against the omnipresent pink tide of October! I used to purchase everyday household items redone in pink, thinking I was helping to fight breast cancer. A little more awareness taught me that many of those pink items contain carcinogens and endocrine disrupters–BPA in plastic, synthetic fragrances in personal care products. Instead of having to find a cure, wouldn’t it be so much better if we funded research into the causes of cancer…and then listened to our scientists instead of corporations motivated by greed and complacency?
A note of appreciation for Missy’s message — I couldn’t agree more. My antidote? I took the opportunity to breastfeed, big-time! I am now 59, eating well, exercising, and have developed a habit of feeling grateful for both the contrast that redirects me and the wellness that abounds.
Eat a plant-based diet. All the research points to eating a low-fat, plant-based diet to reduce ones risk of cancers, heart disease, and diabetes. And don’t dare ask “well if I can’t eat meat then what can I eat?” There is a huge, vast array of fruits, veggies, legumes, grains, nuts, and spices out there that are the real flavor of food. And the desserts are great too. Enjoy.
Love this, thank you for one of the most truthful observations I have read all month. I’m tired of fear with no change too, insanity?!
Amen to this amazing post!!!
I also increase / support my Glutathione (the most important anti-oxidant, immune booster, detoxifier, anti-inflammatory that your cells can hope for). I Use CellGevity http://www.max.com/science/123278/full/us/en/overview
I also get regular thermographs!! You can detect a lump 10 years earlier than Mammography!! No squishing, NO Radiation!
Here’s to your healthy breasts!
Thank you for the first reasonable “marketing” comment I have seen from a for-profit business about the breast cancer mania — what you so aptly call the “pink menace”. I frequently want to tell people that, while there is much to learn about breast cancer, we already know how to prevent nearly half the cases: exercise and sensible diet.
Thank you, Ann
As former cancer center employee, one of the best weapons to a cure for all cancers we have is genetic and stem cell testing and research. Sadly this best tool is at the mercy of political winds and false soothsayers. To BEST support a cure, please donate and support those institutions that are working with NIH and other world health organizations in stem cell research and treatment. Also ensure that the research you are funding is sending most of your money directly to research and not to administration and overhead.
